Waking Up Early

You may have heard your grand parents extol the virtues of getting up early with the song ‘early to sleep and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.’ But its interesting to know that this is no mere wives tale and the benefits to waking up early are many, including but not limited to;

Sustain a Healthier Diet

Early risers have time for a good breakfast, which supplies nutrients that provide energy and focus. Skipping breakfast can lead to overeating and cravings for the rest of the day.

Enhance Your Productivity

Research conducted by Texas University found that students who consistently woke up early each day actually scored better test scores and overall grade points, in comparison to those who slept in all the time. Some of the most successful people in the world are early risers because they wake up early and get more done. There are less distractions early in the day, the brain is charged and ready to work, and so decisions, planning and setting goals is easier.

Better Mental Health

The first hour of your day and how you spend it often sets the tone for the rest of your day and your life. Studies have shown “morning people” are often more positive, more optimistic and more likely to experience satisfaction in their lives. And not rushing of a morning can reduce stress too.

More Time to Exercise

Shake off the lethargy of sleep and energise the start of your day by moving your body. Exercising in the morning allows you to stick with a routine, which can tend to fall by the wayside if you schedule exercise at the end of your day.

Healthy Sleep Routine

Early risers often have very well established sleep routines. According to many sleep experts, it’s important to establish a proper sleep routine to improve the quality of your sleep as this helps to set your body’s “internal clock” to establish a routine – making it easier for you to sleep and wake naturally.

Morning Meditation

The benefits of meditation are numerous and the ancient sages extolled the virtues of early morning meditation when the world is calm and energy is highest.

The easiest way to start waking early is to set a routine of earlier nights. At first your alarm may be required and then after some time you will start to wake naturally. So why not set an intention to wake up early for at least a month and until it becomes a habit you will want to maintain for many months to come.
